OUR STORY
After making Alert Wear cases for a while, I faced a new dilemma to conquer. Until then, we always dropped our medicine at the first aid stand at the local water park. With a wing and a prayer, we ventured out into the park going against all the rules we had set for our kids to always have their medicine on them. Nothing felt good about that but, we refused to let food allergies hold us back. Then, we decided to take one of our older cases and use it with Ziploc bags. That worked as long as I double bagged but, not well enough to trust with such important medicine.
Before making these cases, I had a cloth diaper business. The materials that are used in the outside coverings for cloth diapers is PUL. It's a Polyurethane Lined Polyester that is stretchy and waterproof. Great stuff! I ordered the same fabric and coupled it with a durable waterproof outdoor fabric and fleece to make a water resistant case. It kept the contents dry in rain, running through the sprinkler and riding on amusement park splash rides but, after sending it through the washing machine packed with empty EpiPen® holders I realized it was not "waterproof". Realizing that we still couldn't swim with the case on, I kept searching. I finally came across a company to partner with to add a durable airtight, waterproof interior bag (Loksak) that fits 2 EpiPen® and fits inside my water resistant case. Together, you have a waterproof case with the comfort of hands-free, flexible carrying. And with the Medic Alert symbols on the side, you should not be asked to remove your case for entrance on park rides, a problem we had encountered with other waist packs.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
From Erin, an adult who wears her case daily:
"This has been a life saver this summer! I wear it daily (without the inner waterproof part). The material is so soft and doesn't get too sweaty running around outside all day in the south florida heat. The design is amazing and makes me happy every time I see it. Best, sweetest, most wonderful customer service too. THANK YOU" - Erin
From Katie, parent of a food allergic child:
"This is hands down the best way for my daughter to carry her epipen. the communication through out the process was great and the end result is awesome. the personalization makes it special to her, and makes it cool to her friends. although we did choose to leave her name off the front for safety. she has worn this during cheer practice, days at the park, school and bike riding. it always stays put and she never complains about it. she wore it recently on an all day trip to a water park. she swam, she went down slides, in the wave pool . The contents (auvi q, benadryl single dose and a allergy action plan) stayed perfectly dry. it was amazing to just let her have fun and us relax not always having to worry about where he stuff was. THANK YOU!" - Katie
SIZE
The pouch portion of the case measures about 9.5 inches wide by 4.5 inches deep. The case comes with a waterproof Loksak. While larger than our regular sized cases due to thicker materials and space required for the added Loksak, this design is still trim compared to traditional waist packs. It can be hidden under loose fitting clothing. Each case is custom sized to fit the recipient. The case will easily hold 2 EpiPen® and single dose antihistamine tabs, 2 AUVI-Q® with antihistamine and inhaler or standard inhaler and chamber. If you are unsure of the size, please send us a picture of what will go in the case prior to placing your order.
MATERIALS
We use a variety of layers of materials to help protect your medicine, while making the case comfortable, compact and durable. Every case will have a minimum of three layers of materials, including heavy duty Sunbrella® canvas which is embroidered with your design and medical alerts. The canvas is then sewn to our Polyurethane Lined Polyester to provide a nice snug fit around the contents of the case. The case is then lined with a layer of fleece to help insulate. To help prevent bounce, we use a heavy duty polyester woven elastic belting. We can make the case with latex-free non-stretch belting if requested. The case is finished off with a parachute buckle and two sliders for an adjustable custom fit, webbing loop to hang up when not worn and a zipper opening. The PUL and Canvas are waterproof materials. however, with seams and a zipper, water can still seep in. Therefore, we include a waterproof Loksak with the case so that it can be worn on your next adventure to the water park! Without the Loksak, there is no need to stress over a run through the rain.
